DISCOVERED: OCTOBER 13, 1895

CLASSIFICATION: MAIN BELT

ORBIT PERIOD: 4.24 YEARS

NAMED AFTER: MYTHOLOGY

Arachne was a mortal who’s talents were better than Goddess Athena (Pallas #2). Particularly, when it came to weaving things such as tapestries. Which word got out to Pallas, who devised a plan to visit her transformed as an old woman.

Eventually Pallas revealed herself. Her competitiveness and bitterness got the best of her - and was challenged by Arachne and lost.

Out of anger, Pallas decided to turn her into a spider. Ironically though, this was a win for Arachne. Now she could weave forever and she had unlimited silk.

When it comes to her delineation, she can represent weaving, rivalry, talent, people who compete with our skills. It also shows up in transits highlighting the internet and online web.

This asteroid suggests cycles when it comes to what we weave in our lives - especially through talents.
